Alabama Pardon and Parole Hearings to Resume in May
Pardon and Parole hearings in Alabama have been “on hold” due to concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic. Governor Kay Ivey has ordered the Board of Pardons and Paroles to resume hearings. Details are unclear at the current time but it appears that hearings will be held via telephone or perhaps via video conference software.
Skier & Associates remains committed to fully representing our clients at these important hearings, and we are in touch with Pardons and Paroles staff to ensure a smooth, seamless process for our clients, leading to full consideration of pardons or parole. We have a proven, decades-long track record of success before the Board.
If you or a loved one has a pardon or parole hearing scheduled, we are here to help. Here are some of the steps we take in representing clients before the Board:
1. Fully discuss the process with the applicant and with his/her family to ensure that everyone has complete understanding of the process.
2. If applicant is incarcerated, arrange a visit with him or her at the facility they are housed. (Note: at the time of publication, DOC facilities have suspended visitation. This conversation will be via telephone until further notice.)
3. Prepare all presenters fully for the hearing, including working with them to avoid pitfalls that presenters sometimes unwittingly fall into. (Until further notice these meetings will be via telephone or video conference.)
4. Appear personally at the hearing and make a presentation on behalf of the applicant.
5. If technical accommodations need to be made to comply with Board meeting guidelines, we work with the Board and with our clients to ensure that hearings run smoothly and efficiently.
Call today for a consultation and let us help you navigate the arcane and often confusing world of Alabama’s Pardon and Parole scheme.
